Press Release: Beechwood Inn Receives 2014 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence

Clayton, Georgia – August 2014: Known for luxury lodging, superb cuisine and exceptional service, the Beechwood Inn, located in the North Georgia Mountains, has garnered a 2014 Wine Spectator Magazine “Award of Excellence.” This represents the only restaurant in Northeast Georgia to receive this prestigious commendation.

Wine Spectator, the authoritative magazine on viticulture, annually reviews restaurant wine lists and menus from around the world, recognizing those with outstanding offerings. An Award of Excellence is given based upon a restaurant’s proven commitment to maintaining a fine wine list, with a sufficient selection of better producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. This year the magazine selected only 2,870 restaurants in the world to receive the distinguished recognition. It is also the 8th consecutive year Wine Spectator has recognized Beechwood inn with this award.

David and Gayle Darugh, Chefs and Owners state that their commitment to excellence is the Beechwood Inn’s number one goal, and to ensure that diners sample only from the finest vintages and receive unsurpassed service. The Inn offers Saturday Farm to Table dinners, cooking classes and wine tastings. “It’s an honor to be recognized internationally by the Wine Spectator” says David Darugh. “We pride ourselves in creating an excellent dining experience for our guests offering the highest-quality innovative cuisine and finest wines. We have developed a loyal following of guests that will often make their lodging or dinner reservations months in advance.”

Gayle considers the award to be not only an accolade for the Beechwood Inn but it is also a significant recognition for culinary tourism in our region as a whole.  “I believe the mark of a great restaurant is not only to have great food, fine wine, and impeccable service, but also to promote local products as much as possible. Therefore, we feature many locally grown, organic and sustainable items in our meals, we serve our local wines and we use and exhibit regional art and furniture in the inn. Considering the abundance of knowledge and enthusiasm, it is encouraging and reassuring to see that many of us here in the Rabun County culinary community are being recognized for our passion and commitment.”

The Beechwood Inn is located on 100 year old terraced gardens overlooking downtown Clayton. The Inn features 8 luxurious guest rooms, unparalleled service, gracious staff and attention to detail. Earlier this year, David and Gayle Darugh were recognized as “Best Chefs America 2014/2015.”
