Beechwood Inn is proud to be a partner with Clean the World Foundation. Hygiene-related illnesses are among the top two causes of childhood mortality, worldwide. Approximately 3,600 children under the age of five die every day due to respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases that are preventable.

With access to clean water, proper sanitation, and adequate hygiene, morbidity rates can be reduced by 50% or more. In fact, studies show that hand washing with soap and water is the single most effective way to prevent hygiene-related deaths.
Several years ago Gayle encouraged other Rabun Count inns to save used bar soap as a group. Each inn would take a turn delivering the used soaps to a “Clean the World” plant in Doraville. With 8 inns in the county each inn would only have to drive the soaps to the plant every 8 months. As an individual inn Beechwood did not create the minimum amount of soap the plant would accept. The proposal didn’t succeed. Our quantity of recycling was just small to make the trip. Now, however, now Clean the World has made their program for recycling soap even easier for small properties like Beechwood Inn. They send us bins for soap and plastic bottles. When the bins are about 1/2 way full they send us UPS Shipping labels and new bins. Easy, so we have joined their program.
Clean the World, founded in Orlando, Florida to address global health issues by using discarded hygiene supplies from the hospitality industry. Aiming to reduce the number of hygiene-related deaths, they began recycling soap into new bars to distribute to communities in need. In 2015, Clean the World joined forces with nonprofit organization Global Soap to tackle international health disparities. Working towards the universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), they focus on outcome-based programs to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations around the world.
Clean the World has impacted millions of lives through their programs and through those of their NGO partners. With an emphasis on education, training, and community engagement, all programs promote self-sustainability and lead to long-lasting impact.
To date, they have distributed over 50 million bars of soap, hygiene kits, and other WASH supplies, contributing to a 60% reduction in the rate of deaths related to poor hygiene. Having served over 10 million people in 127 countries within the past 10 years, they are on a mission to provide WASH for all. Beechwood Inn is small, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a difference through collaborative partnerships.
